Answering Your Questions: The Truth About Crystal Pendulums in Energy Work

Responding to an Inquiry

Recently, we invited members of a group I’m actively involved with to share their questions. Here’s my response to one of those inquiries.

Anne Snyder asked:
How much does a crystal affect the use of a pendulum? I have one for each chakra. Should I just have one dedicated for use all the time?

The Appeal and Drawbacks of Crystal Pendulums

Crystal pendulums have long held a certain allure in the world of energy work, but when it comes to biofield healing, they may not be the best tool for the job. While their beauty and natural energies make them popular, crystal pendulums bring with them several significant drawbacks that can interfere with the delicate process of working with subtle energies.

For clarity, in this article, we are specifically discussing crystal pendulums (clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, etc.), but I feel the same way about mineral pendulums as well.

A Controversial Topic

Now, I want to acknowledge that this is a somewhat controversial topic. Many people swear by their crystal pendulums and have great success with them. This article is based on my personal experiences, and I can’t speak to what others believe or what has worked for them. My perspective is simply shaped by what I’ve encountered over the years in my practice. In my experience, crystal pendulums have posed more challenges than benefits when it comes to biofield work.

How Crystals Can Interfere with Pendulum Work

Crystals naturally emit their own frequency, which can easily interfere with a pendulum’s ability to respond neutrally and accurately. Instead of simply reflecting the energies of the biofield, a crystal pendulum might introduce its own energy into the equation, leading to mixed or skewed results. When you’re trying to hone in on the subtleties of someone's energy field, the last thing you need is a pendulum with its own energetic "opinion."

My Experience with Crystal Pendulums

I have used crystal pendulums in the past and experienced all kinds of issues—from a lack of clarity in readings to attracting less-than-desirable energies. I found myself constantly having to clean them. In one particularly intense session, I even had a crystal pendulum, that had been cleared, cracked under the energetic load. It was clear that crystals, while beautiful, are often not equipped to handle the complexities of biofield work.

Crystal Pendulums and Their Impact on the Biofield

Crystal pendulums can be quite harmful to the biofield. Rather than moving smoothly through the energetic layers, they often tear into them, causing disruptions instead of supporting the healing process. Some believe that this tearing can lead to eventual healing, but why damage someone’s chakras when it’s entirely unnecessary?

As a crystal therapist, I’ve found that simply laying a crystal or stone on a chakra is much safer. This allows the energy to be absorbed by the biofield gently, without the disruption an energetic vortex can create within the chakra system, aura, or biofield. This is particularly important for those seeking to repair and balance their energy system—any disturbance can hinder healing progress rather than support it.

Energetic Imprints and Contamination

Another concern with crystal pendulums is that they tend to absorb and hold onto energetic programs. These are like energetic imprints, which may not always be beneficial. Without constant cleansing, which can be time-consuming, these programs can linger and affect future sessions. In some cases, this can lead to what I refer to as "energetic contamination," where the pendulum carries non-beneficial energy into the next healing session, impacting its effectiveness.

Another consideration is that these imprints or programs have been grown into the crystal, they cannot simply be cleared as they are part of the crystal. I liken this to a book. You can cleanse the book of negative energy, but no amount of clearing is going to change the words in the book. This is the same with some crystals.

My Recommended Alternatives

For these reasons, I recommend high-vibrational wood or brass pendulums. These materials are more stable and less prone to the issues that often arise with crystal pendulums. They hold a clean, neutral energy, which makes them much more reliable for biofield work. In particular, wood pendulums carry a grounding Earth energy, which I find especially helpful in keeping energy work anchored in the 3D realm.

The Exception: Vogel Crystals

However, there is one exception: the Vogel crystal or a precise Vogal Cut crystal. A true Vogel crystal is cut with precise, sacred geometry and specific angles discovered by Dr. Marcel Vogel. These crystals are designed to focus and amplify energy in a controlled way, making them particularly suited for energy work.

A true Vogel crystal pendulum can channel energy smoothly without the disruptions or contamination issues typical of other crystal pendulums. Its precise construction ensures that it works in harmony with the biofield, rather than against it.

Choosing the Right Tools for Energy Work

While I generally advise against using crystal pendulums for biofield work, a genuine Vogel crystal is an exception worth considering. Its design allows for a high level of precision and control, offering the benefits of crystal energy without the drawbacks.

When working with subtle energies, choosing the right tools can make all the difference. For most, wood or brass pendulums offer the stability and neutrality needed for effective biofield healing. But for those seeking the specific qualities of crystal energy, a true Vogel crystal can provide a safe and powerful option. However, even Vogel crystals require occasional cleansing. I cleanse mine after every use.

A Bit About My Crystal Journey

Since my first spiritual awakening, I’ve been able to feel the energies of crystals, which led me to deepen my connection with them and become a certified crystal therapist. This wasn’t some quick online course—I spent a full year in rigorous training, learning about what crystals are, their consciousness (or lack thereof), how they work, and what they bring to the table in healing.

It was an in-depth journey that made me aware of the incredible potential crystals hold, but it also taught me that not all crystals are created equal.

The Importance of Activation in Crystals

In my experience, certain crystals can be excellent for high-vibrational energy healing, but not all. One key factor is activation. Not every crystal is activated; some require a bit of a "push" to step into their full energy potential.

I believe that any crystals we purchase should already show signs of activation—they should be radiating energy from the start. A non-activated crystal can feel dormant or sluggish, and I’ve found that these are not effective in energy work.

At the end of the day, while crystal pendulums may have their appeal, especially for their beauty and energetic qualities, they can introduce complications that make them less suitable for biofield work. Their tendency to emit their own frequencies, hold onto energetic imprints, and potentially disrupt the subtle layers of the energy body makes them less reliable. For those reasons, I recommend wood or brass pendulums as a more stable, grounded option. Wood, with its Earth energy, helps keep the work rooted in the physical realm, while brass maintains neutrality and purity, offering a more balanced and effective approach to energy healing.

Ultimately, the right tool supports and enhances your practice without introducing unnecessary interference. Hopefully, this provides clarity and answers the questions asked by Ann regarding the best pendulum for chakra and energy work.
