Embracing Life’s Lessons: How Every Encounter Shapes Us

Me: Hey God.

God: Hello.....

Me: I'm falling apart. Can you put me back together?

God: I would rather not.

Me: Why?

God: Because you aren't a puzzle.

Me: What about all of the pieces of my life that are falling down onto the ground?

God: Let them stay there for a while. They fell off for a reason. Take some time and decide if you need any of those pieces back.

Me: You don't understand! I'm breaking down!

God: No - you don't understand. You are breaking through. What you are feeling is just growing pains. You are shedding the things and the people in your life that are holding you back. You aren't falling apart. You are falling into place. Relax. Take some deep breaths and allow those things you don't need anymore to fall off of you. Quit holding onto the pieces that don't fit you anymore. Let them fall off. Let them go.

Me: Once I start doing that, what will be left of me?

God: Only the very best pieces of you.

Me: I'm scared of change.

God: I keep telling you - YOU AREN'T CHANGING!! YOU ARE BECOMING!

Me: Becoming who?

God: Becoming who I created you to be! A person of light and love and charity and hope and courage and joy and mercy and grace and compassion. I made you for more than the shallow pieces you have decided to adorn yourself with that you cling to with such greed and fear. Let those things fall off of you. I love you! Don't change! ... Become! Become! Become who I made you to be. I'm going to keep telling you this until you remember it.

Me: There goes another piece.

God: Yep. Let it be.

Me: So ... I'm not broken?

God: Of course Not! - but you are breaking like the dawn. It's a new day. Become!!!

Life is a wild ride full of twists, turns, and a revolving door of people who come and go. Whether they’re friends, foes, or somewhere in between, each person we meet has something to teach us—whether we like it or not! When someone sparks a strong emotional reaction in us, it’s like they’re holding up a mirror, showing us what we need to heal within ourselves. Instead of getting frustrated or defensive, what if we paused to thank them for making us stronger and more resilient? By embracing these lessons, we can become the best version of ourselves and live a life that’s truly fulfilling.

Now, I get it—different perspectives can be challenging to navigate. Not everyone sees the world the same way we do, and that can be frustrating. But here’s the thing: life is one big classroom, and we’re constantly learning and growing. Years ago, I stumbled upon a book called Your Soul’s Plan: Discovering the Real Meaning of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born by Dr. Robert Schwartz. Let me tell you, this book was a game-changer for me. It helped me see that the challenges and hardships we face aren’t just random roadblocks—they’re opportunities for growth.

It’s comforting to think that maybe, just maybe, our souls chose these challenges to help us evolve. This shift in perspective allowed me to see my struggles not as insurmountable obstacles, but as lessons to learn from.

As we journey through life, our souls are constantly seeking growth and evolution. But let’s be honest, the road isn’t always smooth. We hit bumps, face traumas, and sometimes feel like we’re falling apart. But here’s the secret: those tough times are actually crucial for our soul’s development. Every challenge we face, every trauma we endure, offers a unique lesson that makes us stronger and wiser.

When someone we trust betrays us, it feels like a punch to the gut. We might feel hurt, angry, or even vengeful. Others might feel lost, sad, or simply confused. How we respond to these emotions varies—some of us become more cautious in our relationships, others might develop a deeper sense of empathy, and some might even find relief in letting go of the pressure that relationship brought. The lessons we take away from these experiences are as unique as we are, reflecting the rich tapestry of human nature.

We humans are complex beings, always evolving and growing. Our experiences, both good and bad, shape who we are. When we go through tough times, it’s easy to feel like we’re falling apart. But in reality, we’re transforming. We’re becoming stronger, wiser, and more resilient. We’re becoming who we’re meant to be.
